Global Access in Action (GAiA) is a non-profit organization, based at Harvard Law School, whose primary mission is improving public health and overall welfare in low and middle-income countries. Formally, GAiA is an offshoot of the Berkman Klein Center for Law and Technology, which in turn is one of several “interfaculty initiatives” at Harvard University.

GAiA’s Bylaws are available HERE.

In 2024, GAiA was accredited by the World Intellectual Property Organization as a Permanent Observer National Non-Governmental Organization. An application for similar accreditation by the Convention on Biological Diversity is currently pending.

Our Approach

In our work, we try to adhere to the following principles:

Pragmatism | We seek to identify reforms that will have meaningful impact and can be readily implemented.

Interdisciplinarity | We try to integrate insights derived from the fields of law, medicine, politics, and moral philosophy

Multi-institutional Solutions | We look for ways of efficiently combining legal reform, initiatives by nongovernmental actors, and for-profit ventures by private firms.

Independence | We are not compensated for our work and do not have stakes in the institutional solutions we recommend and help to implement.
